About the Coalition

The University Coalition to Co-create a Sustainable Society aims to achieve Carbon Neutrality (CN) by 2050 as a central element within a Circular Economy (CE) based on resource circulation, Nature Positive (NP) nature restoration, and enhanced overall human Well-being (WB). The University Coalition collaborates with businesses, governments, communities, students, and other civil actors to accelerate knowledge creation and societal implementation, in order to create a sustainability society for future generations.

Our Vision

Achieving Carbon Neutrality is critical to the survival of humanity. As our existence depends on the natural environment, CN is the central pillar for resilient and sustainable economies and societies. Advancing CE through resource circulation and natural restoration will require innovation in technological, economic and social systems. Since CN, CE, and NP initiatives involve many trade-offs, it is crucial to consider them holistically and synergistically and to advance their implementation through regional consensus.

It is also essential that we ourselves, our societies, and future generations achieve a better state of well-being. This is the ultimate goal of holistic approaches to CN, CE, and NP in a sustainable society. Substantially improving WB will require unprecedented innovation in human values and awareness.

Faced with such profound challenges, we must accelerate the creation of knowledge and mobilize all available resources to contribute to local communities, the nation, and the world.
Universities have a special mission to create the scientific knowledge that underpins national and regional policies, and to contribute to innovation through education, research, and social activities. They must also collaborate with each other to disseminate this knowledge.
